This version is now obsolete. Please use the current version from www.miktex.org which includes full greek suport.

MikTeX version 2.0 with Greek support

From this page we provide the current MikTeX installation including Greek support. Note that this distribution is not the same with the distributions found on several servers around the net. This is the first distribution of MikTeX which includes Greek support.

Mirroring of this page and this distribution is allowed only if the original site http://iris.math.aegean.gr/software/ is quoted explicitely on the pages.

Greek is not an option during the installation process. It will be installed by default. The user has only to follow the installation wizard's recommended options. Plus he or she will need Ghostview and a TeX editor.

The user is advised not to change anything in the hyphenation patterns from the Windows Start menu of MikTeX relating to the Greek language. The default hyphenation patterns for Greek work properly for both the greek and polutonikogreek options of babel.

Installation Instructions

  1. Install GhostView (the gsv27550.exe file).
  2. Install MikTeX version 2.0 by double-clicking on the file setupwiz.exe.
  3. Continue by installing the First MikTeX v2.0 Update (file mt20up1.exe)

TeX Editors

You also need an editor suitable for TeX/LaTeX files. Here you can download two different such editors:

Both WinEdit and WinShell are excellent choices. However you may have trouble on Windows2000 with WinShell. For WinShell make sure that you read the help files since WinShell uses the idea of "main document". WinEdit is a shareware program. This means that you have to pay the creators of the program in order to use it. If you do not want to pay for it we strongly recommend WinShell.

Copyright Notices :
Since from this page we provide an automatic installation of the Greek option, we feel responsible to repeat the copyright restrictions of this package (since the user does not come in any "contact" with the installation files and will not see the copyright restrictions anywhere) :

The Greek option can not be used in any commercial publication by the "University of Crete Publications".

The included Type1 Kerkis FontFamily (kerkis.sty and kmath.sty) is free to use with the restriction that if used in a commercial work, in the Copyright section it must be written that you are using "Kerkis (C) Department of Mathematics, University of the Aegean".

still  available here. Only for people that want a customi-
zed instalation of Greek and are not "first-timers" in in-
stalling TeX.

The Old Version of MikTeX (v1.2) can be found here.
